		<description>I was under the impression that McCarthy&#039;s original Lisp did just what you want: represented procedures as plain old lists whose first element was the symbol &quot;lambda&quot;.  Something tells me this turned out to be a bad idea, which is why it&#039;s no longer done.  I will bet you that Eli Barzilay will be able to tell you the pros and cons.</description>
